The bear was seen in the area of Glassbury Court and Woodcrest Lane in Mount Kisco, village officials announced on Monday, June 24 around 8:30 a.m.

Police have been notified of the sighting, officials said, adding that residents should be aware of their surroundings.

According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, bears' movements increase in June as breeding season begins and young bears disperse to find their own space. The animals are usually not dangerous to people but can become so if they become conditioned to humans or feel threatened.
